Garrettsville Signs on with NOPEC for Lower Electric Bills -Village Council passes new legislation to set tone for new year

Garrettsville - Several new resolutions and ordinances were passed by Garrettsville Village Council on January 13, 2010. In summary, the Village has adopted a NOPEC group rate for savings in electric service fees; water rates and meter requirements have been amended; and private property is being purchased to preserve Village parking.

James A. Garfield Historical Society Dedicates Historic Marker

Garrettsville - On Monday, February 15, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. the James A. Garfield Historical Society will dedicate a state historical marker in Garrettsville to honor the history of the maple industry that was once centered in the Garrettsville/Freedom/Nelson area of Northeast Ohio. The marker dedication will be combined with a dessert reception in the F.F. Mott Drug store at 8107 Main Street Garrettsville, Ohio. Area maple syrup producers and historians will be on hand to answer questions about the production of maple syrup and the upcoming maple season.

Congratulations Lady G-Men Bowling Team

A big congratulations to Joe Brigham and the Garfield girl’s bowling team on their 100th career victory. The unbelievable feat is not that they have 100th matches, but the fact that they have done so without losing a single one along the way. Monday marked the milestone with a convincing 2219 to 1681 victory over Rootstown at Sky Lanes in Garrettsville. Led by Kelly Russamano’s 404 (two games of 202) and baker scores of 181, 168 & 201.

The Windham BOE Receives Proclamation

Windham - The Board of Education received a proclamation for State Representative Kathleen Chandler at their January board meeting. Chandler was on hand to recognize the 10th anniversary of Windhams’ “Brick by Brick Scholarship Program” by offering a proclamation to the Board and the Brick by Brick committee. The Brick by Brick has given out sixty-seven $1000 scholarships since its inception ten years ago. The scholarship money is generated by the interest from the revenue of the sale of bricks and the bricks can be viewed in the entryway of the school. Mrs. Chandler also recognized Windham student Steven Kalinoff who participated in Art Week. Steven’s artwork was displayed in the hall of the Ohio House of Representatives for the entire year.
