A big congratulations to Joe Brigham and the Garfield girl’s bowling team on their 100th career victory. The unbelievable feat is not that they have 100th matches, but the fact that they have done so without losing a single one along the way. Monday marked the milestone with a convincing 2219 to 1681 victory over Rootstown at Sky Lanes in Garrettsville. Led by Kelly Russamano’s 404 (two games of 202) and baker scores of 181, 168 & 201.
Over the past four and a half seasons the Garfield girl’s bowling squad has been one of the top performers in the area. In 2006 they finished as district and regional champions. The next season the girl’s went a step further to place 8th in the state.
While there has been high school bowling since 2000 the OHSAA has only acknowledged it as a varsity sport since 2006.
There has been no shortage of great bowlers in the Garfield system, with the likes of: Nia Ellison, Krista Foy, Kayla Foy, Sharissa Stamper, but those names have now been replaced with Chelsea Moore, Elise Lambert and Kelly Russamano. Russamano also owns the second highest score ever recorded by a girl in OHSAA history with a 289 in 2008, only edged out by Crestwood’s Amanda Culp’s 300 during that same season.
The Girl’s look to extend their PTC championship run this Saturday as they travel to Akron for the PTC tournament held at Bill White’s Akron Bowl.
