Hiram - The Friends of the Hiram College Library are sponsoring a talk by Karen Land on Monday, February 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Center Ballroom. Land, a columnist, writer, oral historian, public speaker, outdoor adventurer and Iditarod dog musher, completed her first Iditarod race in March of 2002 after just three years of mushing training. She then went on to compete in the 2003 and 2004 Iditarods.
She travels the country with her sled dog, Borage, and shares her love of dogs, life, the wilderness, and a challenge. Her messages about leadership and team management -- knowing when to lead and when to listen and the importance of team players -- translate to the boardroom and the classroom alike.
Land is writing several books based on her Iditarod adventures, the mushing life, and all of the dogs she has met along the way. She is also a columnist for the Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper, the “Great Falls Tribune,” and the “Kansas City Tribune.” She also writes for magazines.
