100 Pints and still going....

E-mail Print

Garrettsville - 100 pints! That is equal to 12 1?2 gallons! That is a lot of blood! But as Mr. Klamer entered the J. A. Garfield Intermediate School on Monday, February 1st he had only one thing on his mind, donating blood, his 100th pint of blood. And he was happy that he was able to do it during the Intermediate School blood drive. To help commemorate this special occasion Mr. Klamer was presented with a cake and a letter from Red Cross CEO David H. Plate commending him on his continued donation of blood.

Mr. Klamer began donating his blood when he was in college. He tries to donate four times per year. Mr. Klamer feels strongly that donating blood is a good way that people can help others and he encourages everyone to do their part.

The J. A. Garfield Intermediate School held their “Pint Size Heroes” blood drive on Monday, February 1st. The Red Cross came to the school a few weeks prior to the blood drive to speak to the children about the importance of donating, the three parts of blood and how they can help people by donating blood when they get older. The students then go out and “recruit” people to come donate blood. The goal is 30 pints of blood.

The Red Cross was please to inform me that they had 41 donors giving 36 good pints of blood. There were also 9 first time donors. The blood donated has the potential of helping 108 lives! Great job students and donators!
