Division III of the annual Friends of the Burton Public Library Chess Tournament was completed Saturday, February 20.
Nicholas Piazza, a ninth grade Wickliffe High School student won First Place.
Jonathan Bumbarger, a fifth grade Wickliffe Elementary School student took second place, and Nathan Ferris, an eleventh grade Perry High School student took third.
Division IV of the annual Friends of the Burton Public Library Chess Tournament was completed Saturday, February 27, with 21 participants from northeast Ohio.
Tying for first place, the two top players were Nicholas Piazza of Wickliffe and Bob Kelo of Fairport Harbor. Each of them won three and a half of a possible four points. Martin Hillyer of Painesville Township and Stewart Thompson of Madison each won three points, though Hillyer was declared second place winner because he played against opponents with higher scores. Thompson won third place.
The annual Chess Tournaments at Burton Public Library are free and open to all. They will be held again in February, 2011.
