Are you one of the many who have started downloading audiobooks and eBooks? Would you start if you thought it was more affordable? Buying downloaded audiobooks or eBooks can be pretty expensive and, if you’re trying to save money, you may have limited purchases. Did you know that Portage County District Library provides this service free of charge? Available 24/7 (anytime, anywhere) from the convenience of your home, office, or other PC, library cardholders can download audiobooks and eBooks. Visit overdrive.portagelibrary.org to install free software (a one-time download), checkout and download audiobooks and eBooks to your PC, and then transfer to a supported MP3 player (the MP3 format compatible with nearly every player, including the iPod). Also, some titles are available for burning to a CD. This service is provided by OverDrive.
This collection features best-selling authors such as James Patterson, Nora Roberts, Nicholas Sparks, and Harlan Coben. Non-fiction titles include self-improvement, foreign language study, business and careers, and more. Most popular or newly-added include: The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson, Flirt by Laurell K. Hamilton, Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich, and Change Your Brian, Change Your Life by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. You can browse the downloadable collection and check out up to ten titles for either a seven or 14 day loan period using a valid Portage County District Library card. At the end of the loan period, the audiobooks will expire and return to the collection (eBooks may be returned early). Additional guidance- such as the “Quick Start Guide” and “Digital Help-FAQ”- is available on the digital homepage. No returns to the library, no late fees. It’s free, and just that easy!
